Essay based off two American history questions

How and why did the institution of slavery start and develop in the American colonies?  Assess the scale and scope of the Atlantic Slave trade and its impact of Africans, African-Americans, Native peoples, and white settlers.  What reasons did colonists give for keeping slaves?  On what grounds did Africans and some colonists oppose slave holding?  Consider social, cultural, and economic factors.
